June 1, Hurricane Season is upon us

The spiritual hurricane that overtakes this world is largely ignored. We, as Christians, sit and watch the world fall apart, but we do little--maybe I should say "I" rather than "we." I struggle as you do--with work/school, family, friends, faith....I feel "too busy" to do much, "too insignificant." What am I to do? Actually get off my butt and help? Am I to go beyond my means and live for others?

I don't know about you, but this summer is not about me. I pray that this is about teaching my Gathering members, my daughter and my wife how to minister to others (I left my son out because he is 1, not really old enough to understand).

How does that look to serve others? How can we reach out to touch the lives of the down-and-out? How can we reach the wealthy? How can we reach the middle-class? What can we do as the Gathering to come out of our Christian closet and reach the "sinners" of the world....by the way, that might even mean those sitting in the pews next to you at Church....

Another rambling thought--

you clinched me with the ending of your muse there Was with the thought that maybe even the church members next to us but i echo your question of what it looks like .. i am far from the level where i can be confident in my sanctified state and say to the "sinner" come with me and let's follow Jesus but ist that what we're supposed to do .. its not sales.. im not pitching salvion for 77 easy payments of years that you believe and serve Him (and just a caveat little thought here .. im still not conviced that the whole salvation thing is free because free means that there is nothing on the salvation side of the equation "faith + 0 = salvation" .. nay .. i think that "faith + 0 = salvation + good works" thanks to the old keep reading principle .. we read Eph 2:8-9 and think "aint this faith thing great.. duuh im not saved by works" but we tend to leave out verse 10 that tells us that we were "created for good works" ... whatever call me radical) ... overkill caveat .. what do we do for these "sinners" .. i guess we have to go back to just showing them that Christ and living for Him is someway somehow in the end the best choice and that in the end its worth it .. worth it .. in a society that will buy scooters because gas prices are going up, we have to teach these people about tithing and loving their enemy, about self control, personal restraint, higher priorities, respecting authorities, and that this is all in service of one God who is kinda three Gods but is really one and kinda in three forms but not forms cause theyre seperate but not seperate cause theyre one and one of the three-one came here and provided for me to live this Christian life .. on occasion i like to play the Christian cynic because I know that my faith is real and I know where I stand and why nothing is ever going to move me but Ill be the first to say that i understand the raised eyebrows and the frustrated fat men who would rather waste time and money on the gold course than in church on Sunday mornings .. see i really do understand them and their point .. the problem is they dont understand my view .. cause if they did .. they would have that jiggly neck choked up on sunday morning and those stubby hands held high while their clubs rust and their golf glove dryrots .. how do I let the world know this .. how can I make people for just a second see through my unintoxicated on Friday night eyes and look at a gracious man on a beautiful cross and know that I owe Him more than a few trips to the pews, more than a full bible study puchcard ... ive written a lot and come to very few conclusions but Im poised and ready for action when we take it because they have to know .... ps im disapointed that it took so long for me to get on here cause i really like this blog thing - Cor

pat makin an entry from down under .. hiyooh .. Pat we miss you but the Gathering is jumpin brother so you better bring an extra seat when you come back ... as for the what do we do thing .. i think that we can certainly start with getting them to the Gathering .. as for those in the church pews next to us that live a superficial faith .. your guess is as good as mine but I hope its not too cliche to say that we just have to show them our faith .. im gonna take a stand and take some action .. i think im gonna teach middle school Bible study and try to make an impact this summer ... ive got a few ideas, a lot of of ambition, a healthy portion of passion, and high hopes because of the connection and impact that I already have with some of the middle school guys .. Was i need your help on this one as you do have a few years on me with experience in this department .. what are yall doing this summer to make an impact? to invest in others lives? .. call it out and post any plans - Corey
